In 2008 the Liverpool Skyline was lit by a fantastic firework display, the likes we will probably not see again for a very long time, this was to celebrate the 700 year end of slavery. The end of the year of Culture Capital New Years Eve 2008 there where no Fireworks, no money left? No they decided to put the end of 2008 show on the 10th of January 2009... There was a Firework display but a lot of mist in the air too, so the shots from that display will be posted soon but don't look as impressive as this display.

The QE2's final voyage, as she silently slipped into Liverpool for the last time (ok so the first one is the Saga Rose), I was lucky to have spotted this, and later that night I took another panoramic shot with the Mersey Ferry passing for the last time.

It's been a long time since the last update, and now I don't know where to start. It's now the start of 2009 and the world has changed, Liverpool has changed, but is any of it for the better. The hopes for 2008 where dashed like I knew they would be, I have many more images to post, websites to update, but the task seems daunting & a little pointless. But time keeps flowing, the future uncertain, I have to think of something new to do for the coming year & the rest of my life.

It's can sometimes be difficult to view things from an alternate pespective, and usually we are forced to look at things through our own eyes, with our own unique perspective on things. Is also hard to see a place in a new light, especially if you have been there before many times, and hard to try to capture a new angle on things for a photograph.

Recently while testing some Fuji NPS 160 film, and various cameras and lenses, I had no choice but to wander around a familiar place, to put the film through its paces, and as serendipity or luck would have it I ended up with a few shots that manage to show New Brighton off in a way I never saw before.

With the Liverpool Waterfront and Birkenhead Dock's all set for a major new development from Peel Holdings, full of Skyscrapers. It makes you realise we in Liverpool could become more than just a target for tourism. Having an Airport, a Waterfront full of skyscrapers & an oil refinery, all so close to each other. Would make the Liverpool the ideal target for disaffected youths. The recent huge fire at Ellesmere port, looked like a terrorist attack from this angle, the huge cloud of black smoke headed over Chester, probably full of highly toxic fumues, although it looked like an explosion at the oil refinery Stanlow, Ellesmere port, it was just a huge pile of burning rubber???

As the whole world seemed to be interested in the Wirral, if only for an instant, you certainly felt you where missing out on something if you didn't try to see the event. This event doesn't come around that often, so obviously you would want to take some photographs, but with passes for photographing the event selling for hundreds, and the cost just to get in the event, too much for the non-enthusiast. In true Liverpool Style an alternative was available, a little inginuety, face, and some local knowledge helped to get into the event for free and rattle off some shot's.
A short video clip was also managed the next day.

June 2006 - Charlesville Castle - Fantastic location for the festival, the full moon added to the sublime atmosphere created by this historic setting. This International Dance Festival was a 3 Day event(9,10,11th of June) set in the grounds of the Charleville Castle Tullamore County Offaly. More info about the event at www.life-festival.com is from the first night, approx' 16minutes long at 640x360 resolution 70 MB in size, so ideally best down loaded, originally shot in HD, but posted here at lower resolution as the orig' is 2.65 GB. "I think I'll Pack it in and Buy a Pick Up..." Not sure where I wanted to take it, but I was hoping Simon(SI or SIX) would come along with guitar, and another guy John. All of us 40+ looking for adventure(i.e FREE).....We could all do with the Holiday...Well I suppose you have to have some Dreams......But reality just keeps crashing all around us and getting in the way.

The New Google Earth Mapping Project is really addictive, I've been flying all over the North West without going anywhere. Grabbing hundreds of Images as I retrace my childhood homes, friends houses, and general sight seeing. Along the way I have discovered all sorts of Details and will be splitting up the posts as there are loads of images to follow, I will be adding them to the relevant Blog posts... Images from my Virtual Trip to New York & Ground Zero, Lake Iseo in Italy, Horse Guards Parade in London, Milan, Thassos, Meteora & Lefkas, Parga, Fuerteventura, all the places I have visited at some time in my life. This is going to keep my busy, adding a new dimension to the posts.

January 2006, and these cold clear winter starts to the day, are ideal for catching the Sun, rising over the City of Liverpool. Perfect Light & Cloud Detail, The Liver buildings and the Cathedral backlight by the huge sun.

Global warming is evident to many people who can see past the end of their nose, the trouble with politicians is their nose is constantly growing. So while I continue to make use of these interesting cloud blankets, I can rest assured my heating bills are set to rise! So please help fund the project by Buying a DVD.

New Acoustic Solo Performance Album 2006

SiX (aka Si Whitby), has finnished his first Album. A collection of acoustic songs, just him and his six string, all songs are penned & performed by Si. Songs from the album are featured a the music site 'Purevolume' and can be found on the Liverpool Skyline homepage (near the bottom).

We hope to be rotating the tracks on a regular basis, and as the theme for Liverpool 2006 is all about 'performance', we will be shooting more video's & live performances this summer, along with a re-mastered version as soon as the right studio deal comes along.

2006 Going Digital - Death of Film

It looks like this year will see the end of my 35mm SLR camera & I may even sell my 6x7 camera on ebay. Due to the expense of film & Processing I can no longer see the benefit of the Film Formats, As this year the Pixel Count on Digital SLR's is now finally a real alternative to Film. A Long time ago I ditched the Still Camera in favor of the Video Camera. Digital Still cameras now offer higher resolution than High Definition Video, without the added work involved in producing a video. I am starting to wonder if Still Photoraphy may be the way forward. Preferring the immediacy of the medium, take the picture JOB DONE!!! With little or no Editing needed, no sound equipment needed, Photographer also seem to be able to earn more for less work...

The Web seems to be getting more & more useless everyday. With so much around for free these days I wonder how anyone is making money from the web. I know one thing I must be doing something wrong. No Longer is it OK to have a simple website, new services are being offered all over the web from Forums to Blog's, VLOG's and more....

As I continue to get burried under all the Acronyms, RSS ATOM XML PHP ASP ETC. ETC.
All I can say is that plugging in these new feature's is easier than starting from scratch.

I suppose it's best to just count your blessings, and accept things are moving on, but it's still has the potential to waste huge amounts of time

The Website has had a bit of a Re-Vamp, I hope it's all clear how to use the scrolling windows, and why there is multiple post's/windows, combined on the same page. It saves people having to dig too deep, keeps the latest stuff at the front and allows you to view the video's and the music files direct from the front page, and hopefully it should all load quite quick!

I happend to catch this on film,

A while ago, Gordon Brown sold off Britain's gold reserves (is he allowed to do that?), while gold prices where at an all time low. I didn't hear much about it on the news, In fact I over heard 2 Americans laughing there asses off, and wondered what was so funny....

So as construction is still underway in Liverpool, from the mysterious investments division. While the people who managed to make a killing on all the gold bought cheap, they are finding it difficult to hide the huge reserve.

Hi-Def Video's Available Now

With all my video material before 2005 being shot in Standard Definition. You can imagine how depressing it is, to feel like the collected material from the first years filming is not High Definition. However as the video is all Time-lapse video sequences, this would have been tricky in HD. Now HD for the masses is finally here.

The First Liverpool Skyline website, was developed for the Liverpool Skyline project. The Project is recording the changes on the Liverpool Waterfront between the years 2004 - 2008.

All the video material now being collected is in High Definition. Which will form the basis of a unique visual archive of this world famous waterfront.
